Stacey and Seth's Blog

A little about us...

We met on Stacey's first day at Tufts University. Seth was a sophomore and helping out at the Chaplains' Reception in the chapel on campus. We very quickly became best friends, and two years (to the day) later, we started dating.

We now live together and work (separately) in the Boston area. We were married on June 26th of 2009! Our dog, Kylie lives with us and our two guinea pigs!

RFF's Tomato Festival and "farms tour"

Red Fire Farm in Granby, Mass.
Yesterday was Red Fire Farms' 2010 Tomato Festival and Tomato Trot. Seth ran in the 5k Tomato Trot, and Stacey volunteer at the event. Seth finished the rest in 34th place, with a time of 26' 34". For volunteering, Stacey got a basket of fresh veggies (celery, eggplant, carrots, cucbumbers, and garlic). Seth just got sore legs.

The Tomato Festival was lots of fun. With LOTS of people and venders, chefs and artisans, it was lots of fun. This year RFF grew 137 types of tomatoes--the line was too long to wait for us to try them, but we picked lots instead. We picked LOTS of paste tomatoes to make sauce with.

After the Tomato Festival we drove  to Tougas Farms in Northboro, Mass. to pick peaches. we picked a half bushel, and ate about a dozen while picking. We hope to make peach jam, peach cobbler, and peach sauce with them.

After Tougas, we got back in the car and drove to Eastleigh Farm in Framingham, Mass. Eastlaigh is a dairy farm that serves Raw Milk. It also has ice cream cones for $1.50!! We bought two gallons and hope to make butter, butter milk, and mozzarella, with some milk for drinking. Good times! That completed our three farm tour of Massachusetts. We hoped to get to Pete and Jen's Backyard Birds (farm) in Concord, Mass. But we needed to return the rental car. Maybe next time.

Here's a map of our trip.

Our Garden - Tomatoes!

We have LOTS of cherry tomatoes growing in our garden now. And the larger varieties are coming along well. We get about a quart or two of cherries each week with a half dozen larger tomatoes. Yum!!
